There are several clucks close to the pith. I have to slice out those area.

37センチと32センチ直径ほどのが二つ細いほうから取れました。

 

I could get out of a 16" and a 13" diameter pieces from the skinnier piece.

斜め向かいの家の前に死んだ桜の木がありました。昨秋ターニングを始めてから、市が何時伐りに来るのか 気になって居りました。前のレイズでは歯が立たないサイズなのですが、…今日桜は伐られました。家の前 までデリバリーして欲しい旨ノートを付けたのですが、さすが其処まではしてくれませんでした。いつもは２５センチ くらいの動かしやすいサイズに伐ってブルバードに残して置くのですが、ターニングする旨を了承してくれたようで 長い状態で残してくれました。多分一つで１２０キロかと思います. 直径は大体５０センチくらいです。

The city cut a cherry tree near by my house. I left a note saying I want it for wood turning and want to be left it in front of my house. They didn't deliver them, however, they didn't cut the tree in to small 1' pieces as usual. I guess they know wood turner don't want small pieces of wood. The diametre is a little shy of 2' and a piece weighs about 250~300 lbs.

又、湿ったアルダーからです。直径25センチで、タング油で仕上げてあります。 最初、2センチくらいの厚さに挽いて、電子レンジで三分クックして冷ましてから又三分と六度ほど繰り返してから最終的に挽きなおしてあります。 次の内側の写真を見ると木の芯が二個並んで入っています、木の又になった部分だからです。

これは日本語でなんと言うのか分かりませんが黴が木地に入り込んで模様を作ったもので、 白樺です。直径100mmの高さ75mmです。葡萄種油で仕上げてあります。 Oneway　2436旋盤で最初のです。エンドグレインターニングです（年輪対して垂直に掘り込んである）

From spalted birch wood, end grain turning, finished with grape seeds oil, 100mm diametre and 75mm high, the first work on the new lathe.

こんな木工旋盤にアップグレードしました。カナダ製ですが、グレードとしては世界でもトップです。あと十年アクティブに遊んだりするには今の年代が買い換える最後…かと思ってジャンプです。

I upgraded my lathe to a Canadian brand Oneway lathe. It is considered as the best lathe (or one of...?).I thought this is my last chance, since I am almost 66 years old and I probably will have only 10 more active years left.

なんだか不明な針葉樹からです。エンドグレインターニングです。 葡萄種油で仕上げてあります。芳香性の強い材質で部屋に置いてあると 見る前に気づきます。　135mm.

日本へ行ったり（寒い旅行でした）、帰ってからも震災のプログラムを見ては涙ぐんだ日が続いて ターニングのほうはさっぱりでした。久々にいくつか作りましたのでお見せします。 材は湿ったアルダーです。拾ってきてから三週間経ちますが、回していると水滴が盛んに マスクへ飛んできます。大きさは１０インチ２５ＣＭです。 Ｗｅｔ　Ａｌｄｅｒ　２５ＣＭ
