今日も朝のうち雨でチェーンソーウェザーでは有りません。それで又ファイアーウッドのパイルから。最初のは 中に腐れが入っていて二時間後にギブアップです。 それで先日の大きなボウルの中からくり貫いたピースを使いました。10万円のオプションなんですが、使うのは16ヶ月の内 初めてでした。直径29センチで葡萄種油仕上げです。マイクロウェーブ三分クッキングで三度目で中ほどに亀裂が 入りましたので銅線でステッチを入れました。エクストラタッチで一寸値段が上がったかも…と思ってます。 ボウルの使う油の量ですが、先日の大きなボウルで多分250CC位かと思います。 28番ですね。

It again rained in the morning and wasn't the chainsaw weather. I worked on a piece from my fire wood pile. The wood was rotten inside and I decided I couldn't do anything with it two hours after. I used the centre core of the wood I made my largest bowl on 27th. I had $1,000 option for the lathe to take core out of wood, however, it was my first use. I wan intimidated using it for 16 months. 290 mm in diameter and finished with grape seed oil. I cooked in a micro wave oven, however, at the third cooking the bowl got a crack. I stitched with copper wire, hoping the bowl gets it's value up. I use a lot of oil. the largest bowl, for a instance, needed about one cup. No.28th bowl.

先日の桜からです。桜の種類は関山（かんざん、とかせきやま）って八重桜です。 雨降りなので特注のをチェーンソウで切れません。薪用にブルバードに放置された お手軽サイズの材料からです。直径26センチほどで葡萄種油仕上げです。マイクロオーブンで 三分ずつ五度クッキングして有ります。二日前に造った39センチのもついでに七度クッキングしましたので もう手放しても大丈夫かと思います。去年の桜も同種だったのです。多分凄く鉄を錆びさせる、30分経つとレイズが真っ赤に錆び始めるような 事を言ったと思います。今年のは、酷くないのです。今まで使ってる材料の中で錆びさせるほうであることに違いは無いのですが、特別 気を使わなくても大丈夫です。

From the cherry I got a few days ago. The cherry is "kanzan" variety and the most common type here. Since it was rain today, I couldn't cut larger pieces with chainsaw outside. I used one of small piece which the city crew left on the boulevard for people who want them for their fire wood. 260 mm in diameter and finished with grape seed oil. Before oiling I cooked in a microwave five times for three minutes each. I also cooked the largest bowl I made two days ago for seven times. I think now I could let it go to the neighbour who wants it. The last year's cherry was the same variety as this year's. I think I mentioned the wood was very corrosive and make my lathe started getting lusty in a half hour. This year's is also somewhat corrosive than other varieties I have tried, however, it is not corrosive enough to make me worry and do something to take care of the lathe.

やっとマネージャブルなサイズです。サンディングの前です。 ファンのカバーが壊れてますよね。2.3日前ボールの中をサンデングしてたときボールが壊れて飛んで穴が開きました。指が折れたかもと思ったくらい痛いです。1800RPMくらいで回してたからスピード違反ですね。

It became a managable size. The next step is sanding which I hate. Can you see the cover of window fan is broken? A few days ago, I was sanding inside of a bowl, the bowl broke and hit the fan. I thought my finger broke since the pain in my fingers were tremendous. I was turning bowl at 1800 RPM so it was speeding, wasn't it?

この時点でも重くてやっと装着できました。私のレイズは直径60センチまでそのままで挽く事が出来ます。

It was too heavy for me to mount the wood on my lathe, although I somewhat managed. My lathe can turn up to 600 mm in diameter without using any optional parts.

私の住む町内に死にそうな桜が二本有ったのです。つい一週間前、それでぼやいていたら昨日市のクルーが来てその木の一本と隣接するもう一本を切り倒しました。 ということは、もう一本死んだ木は未だそのままです。っでビール１２缶をあげて50センチの長さで幹を輪切りにして貰いました。直径一メートルほどですから何もリクエストが無ければ持ち上げられるほどのサイズにこまぎられてしまいます。250キロまで大丈夫なはずのローリーが壊れましたので重さが分かるかも。 直径39センチで葡萄種油仕上げです。ご近所さん欲しいそうで、500ドルと言いました。でも500ドルは要りません。クラフトセールで120ドルで売るつもりでいたのです…。そうそうビール代も加算しなくちゃあねっ。6時間くらいチェーンソーで始めてから掛かりました。

Just a week ago, I mentioned I wanted two dead cherry trees on our block. A city crew came yesterday and cut one of the dead trees and another adjacent tree. There is another dead tree are still there untouched by them. I requested one of cherry tree cut at 18 inch length. Since the tree was in one meter diameter, pieces were very heavy and one piece was heavy enough to broke my wheel thing which was rated for 250 kg. They usually cut them to smaller manageable sizes. I gave them a dozen cans of pale ales. Bowl is 390 mm in diameter and finished with cheap grape seed oil. Our neighbour saw it and want it and priced for $500. I don't need $500 from it. It took me about 6 hours from cutting with a chainsaw to finish sanding.

No.25, 街路樹の桜からです。直径２４センチでオリーブ油仕上げです。胡桃油ではコストが嵩みますので。

My 25th bowl from a street cherry tree. 240 mm in diameter finished with olive oil. Walnut oil is rather too expensive for me. I intended to use grape seed oil, however, I made a mistake.

日本語ではフライス盤って言います。1.5　HP　で台湾製。台湾製って中国製より丁寧に作られているようです。 前の機械は旋盤で材料を回してカッターで切るのですがフライス盤は材料を固定しておいて回ってるカッターで切削 します。二つの機械で殆どの物が作れるとか．．．。重さが300kg有るんです。暫く腰痛で腰が曲がって真っ直ぐ立てませんでした。

Taiwan made Milling machine with　a 1.5 HP motor. I think Taiwan products are generally much better built than Chinese products and this is no exception. On lathe, while material is turned, cut with a fixed cutter. however, milling machine cut steadied material with a revolving cutter. I learned that with those two machine combined, majority of things could be made. It weighs about 300 kg. I got a backache from moving it and I couldn't stand straight for awhile.

大きな葉の楓の折れた枝を昨日妻（ブレンダ）が見つけました。 これはNo.21だそうです。11月7日の日系会館のクラフトセールに 40個出店しなければいけないと彼女は言っています。売り上げは 又全て寄付します。ウォールナットオイル仕上げで直径は27.5センチです。

From street found large leaf maple tree branch. My wife found it yesterday. She said this is the no.21 bowl. She insists I had to take 40 bowls to the Nikkei Centre's craft sale on November 7th. The whole amount I could raise from the sale goes to donation again. Finished with walnut oil and 275 mm in diameter.

裏道を運転してたら木の瘤を暖炉用の木のパイルに見つけました。残念ですが一つだけ。 直径16センチほどで胡桃油仕上げ。

While I was driving in a back　lane, I found a burl on a pile of firewood. It was a real pity I could find only one piece. The bowl is 160 mm in diameter and finished with walnut oil.

手持ちの材料がないので針葉樹、杉でボールを作ってみました。普通木の幹に対して横に挽くのですが、年輪に対して平行に挽いてあります。直径は21センチほどです。 贅沢して（？）胡桃油を塗って見ました。

Since I ran out of wood, I made a bowl out of cedar. It is turned parallel to the rings. 210 mm in diameter and finished with walnut oil.

家の裏庭に有った林檎の木を切りました。乾燥に連れての木の変形は今までに試した木と 比べ物にならないくらい酷い物でした。材料は沢山あったのにそれほど作りませんでした 直径は18センチほどです。

My son cut down our apple tree in the backyard. While drying, the bowls warped tremendously so I didn't make many bowls from the wood. 180 mm in diameter.
